Client: International brewery
Sector: Food & Beverage – Beverage production
Location: Zoeterwoude, the Netherlands

At a large brewery site in the Zoeterwoude area, the existing liquid CO₂ storage was replaced by new cryogenic storage tanks, designed for a lower temperature range and a higher design pressure. The new CO₂ tanks each have a capacity of 130 m³, a design temperature from –80 to +45 °C and a design pressure of 22 bar. Leemberg Pijpleidingen & Apparatenbouw BV carried out the detail engineering, dismantling, supply, installation, insulation and commissioning of the complete CO₂ system.
The brewery wanted to replace the existing liquid CO₂ tanks with new tanks that better fit its CO₂ recovery ambitions and more efficient storage: a lower design temperature and a higher design pressure.
This involved more than simply installing two new 130 m³ tanks. The associated pipework and components, designed for –65 °C, also had to be adapted and reintegrated into the existing CO₂ infrastructure.
Leemberg had to manage the full scope within the brewery’s project framework: dismantling the old tanks, installing the new cryogenic tanks, modifying and routing the pipework, applying insulation, and organising all testing, NoBo involvement and commissioning.
Leemberg Pijpleidingen & Apparatenbouw BV delivered the full scope, from detail engineering through to commissioning, as one integrated project.
The old CO₂ tanks were safely dismantled and replaced by new 130 m³ cryogenic storage tanks, designed for –80 to +45 °C and a system pressure of 22 bar. The pipework and components were prefabricated, installed and insulated according to the new design temperatures and tied back into the existing installation.
The complete CO₂ system was tested, assessed under the supervision of a NoBo and commissioned in line with the agreed design conditions. The brewery now has a future-proof CO₂ storage solution that supports more efficient CO₂ recovery and storage.
