To expand ethane storage at a chemical site in Rafnes, an international gas technology engineering company received a turnkey contract for a new ethane gas storage tank. Within this project, Leemberg was responsible for a broad scope around the new tank: supports, piping, equipment installation, insulation, coating, testing and handover documentation – all in line with client requirements, PED and the appointed NoBo. The project was executed in close cooperation with the engineering company and a steel construction partner.
The core of the job was to deliver all required piping and supports around the new ethane storage tank, inside a live plant and within a tightly regulated framework.
Leemberg had to take on project management, prefabrication and installation of supports and piping, equipment installation, cold and hot insulation, painting, NDE, QA/QC documentation and all testing and handover activities as one integrated package. Everything had to comply with client specifications and PED requirements, with a NoBo acting as notified body.
On top of that, the project required close coordination with the engineering company and the steel constructor, so steel structures, piping, equipment and insulation could be delivered as one integrated whole around the new ethane storage tank.
Leemberg successfully completed the full assigned scope – from project management and supports to piping, equipment installation, insulation, painting, NDE, QA/QC, testing, flushing, cleaning and final handover – in line with client requirements and the PED framework.
The piping and support systems around the new ethane storage tank were prefabricated, installed, insulated and coated according to all project specifications. NDE on the specified welds (golden welds), QA/QC documentation and all tests were carried out under the supervision of the NoBo, after which the installation was formally handed over as part of the turnkey ethane storage expansion.
